About Mo
Midwife and International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) based in Edinburgh
Hello, I’m Mo Brownlee BA RN RM ADM IBCLC, founder of Nurture Breastfeeding.

I provide specialist breastfeeding and lactation support for families across Edinburgh and the Lothians, offering calm, evidence-based and compassionate care tailored to each individual journey.
My approach is simple: every parent and baby deserves informed, respectful support that meets them where they are.
My clinical background
I qualified as a midwife in 1986, following a foundation in nursing, and have since built a long and varied career in clinical practice, leadership, and education within maternity care.
Over time, I developed a particular interest in infant feeding and became increasingly focused on supporting mothers with breastfeeding challenges. This led me to specialise in lactation consultancy.
My professional registrations include:
The Nursing & Midwifery Council
• Registered Nurse
• Registered Midwife
• Advanced Diploma in Midwifery
The International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners
• IBCLC
Member of The Royal College of Midwives
Member of The Lactation Consultants of Great Britain
Specialist lactation experience
From 2012, I worked within the Lothian Breastfeeding Clinics, supporting families with a wide range of feeding experiences — from straightforward reassurance to more complex lactation challenges.
NHS Infant Feeding Advisor for East and Mid Lothian 2015/2017
In 2017, I established my private practice to provide more individualised, home-based breastfeeding support.
In 2018, I qualified as an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), further strengthening my ability to provide high-quality, evidence-based care.
Personal perspective
Alongside my clinical experience, I am also a mother of three, including twins, and have experienced both the challenges and rewards of breastfeeding personally.
This lived experience deepens my understanding of how different every feeding journey can be, and why compassionate, non-judgemental support matters.
My approach
Whether you are preparing antenatally, navigating early feeding challenges, or seeking reassurance further along your breastfeeding journey, I offer:
- evidence-based lactation support
- practical, hands-on guidance where needed
- calm, respectful, non-judgemental care
- support tailored to you and your baby
My goal is to help you feel informed, supported, and confident in your feeding journey.
