I primarily offer consultations within Edinburgh and the Lothians, however I may travel outwith this immediate area if requested.
The consultation will be relaxed and supportive. I aim to help you build confidence and overcome any difficulties so you can go on to have an enjoyable breastfeeding relationship.
An antenatal consultation will include:
• Discussing any previous breastfeeding experience or problems
• Discussing any particular concerns or worries you may have
• Discussing how to optimise the early breastfeeding experience
• Developing a feeding plan to help you feel more prepared and confident in the early days.
The initial postnatal consultation will include:
• Taking a full breastfeeding history.
• Discussing any concerns you are having.
• Observation of your baby and a full breastfeeding assessment
• Developing an evidence based plan, specific to your individual needs and circumstance, to help you achieve your feeding goals.
• Answers to any questions you may have during the consultation as they arise.
• Written notes on the consultation.
• A follow-up email with links for helpful information if relevant.
• Telephone or e-mail contact to support your progress.
Nothing extra is required as I will try to find the best ways to support your breastfeeding within your usual environment, however, if you have it available it's useful to have your baby’s health record (red book). That said don't forget:
• Your baby
• Any questions you might have (write them down if you prefer)
• Any breastfeeding aids you are using (nipple shield, breastfeeding pillow etc.)
• Clothing in which it is easy and comfortable for you to breastfeed
The demand for my specialist knowledge and experience is predominantly focused on newborns and babies up to six months of age. However, I am happy upon request to offer advice to mothers of older babies.
Please inform me as soon as possible if you can't make your appointment as another mother may benefit from taking your time slot. A cancellation fee may be levied if less than twenty-four hours notice is given. See Terms & Conditions of service<.
If you have further questions then please get in touch by contact form and I’ll do my best to respond as soon as possible.
